Street Fighter 5 is getting in-game ads

Capcom will introduce ads into Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition as part of an update on Dec. 11. Those ads will appear during loading screens, on stages and on costumes, though Capcom says they will be optional: Players will be able to turn them off.

Street Fighter 5’s sponsored content will “be displayed in several locations in-game to remind you about costumes, bundles, and the Capcom Pro Tour,” the company said on the Capcom Unity blog. If players opt to keep ads enabled during their game, they can earn additional Fight Money — Street Fighter 5’s in-game currency — in ranked and casual matches.

Here’s how ads in Street Fighter 5 will appear, according to Capcom:

Costumes: Ad Style – Every character will have an Ad Style costume where the sponsored content will appear somewhere on their clothing or model

Loading Ads – A sponsor will appear in the versus screen before a battle – this will not affect loading screen times

Stage Ads – Some tournament stages feature a sponsor like the Ring of Power

An example of stage ads is shown in the top image of this post. Below, you can see how loading and costume ads will appear.

On Dec. 11, Capcom is also kicking off a free trial for Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition on PlayStation 4 and Steam. The game will be free to download and play through Dec. 18, and free trial players will get access to 16 fighters playable in a variety of modes.
