New Dauntless trailer reveals cross-platform releases and play

In a new trailer at the 2018 Game Awards, Dauntless developer Phoenix Lab revealed their new vision for the online monster slaying game. In addition to showing off some new content for the game, the trailer revealed that Dauntless will be coming to consoles and mobile platforms next year.

This is all part of Phoenix Labs “One Dauntless” initiative, a goal made to get the game into the hands of as many players as possible. In 2019 — when the game officially releases — players will be able to play Dauntless on the platform of their choice with whoever they want. The game will boast cross-platform play so that players from all walks can slay Behemoths together.

In a short interview with Polygon earlier this week, Phoenix Labs spoke to us about trying to make “One Dauntless” work flawlessly. One of the studios co-founders, Jesse Houston, said that while they’re still working through the technology, the goal is for all players to be able to take their save to any of the platforms of Dauntless — essentially being able to keep their progress wherever they play.

This December also brings a new seasonal event to Dauntless with Frostfall — the winter event. Players will be able to explore their hub of Ramsgate as a frozen over version of the familiar city. A new Behemoth — Valomyr — will also make its debut during the event.

Finally, Dauntless will be introducing the Hunt Pass alongside Frostfall — all of which starts today, Dec. 6. The Hunt Pass offers players a season of items, cosmetics and emotes for $10. In our talk with Phoenix Labs, Houston compared it to Fortnite’s Battle Pass.

When we last visited Dauntless in the open beta, we found the art style and gameplay to be charming and fun. The game has evolved since then and, according to Phoenix Labs, will continue to do so in the years to come.

Dauntless will be released for PlayStation 4, Windows PC — through the new Epic Games store — and Xbox One in April of next year, with Switch and mobile to come at latter dates.
