In what seems to be a recurring theme in the 2018-19 NBA season, Derrick Rose had another career night this week. In Wednesday’s 114-110 loss to the Lakers, Rose scored 31 points and hit a career-high seven 3-pointers, but his re-writing of the history books does not stop there.

Rose’s seven 3-pointers made in a game tied Zach LaVine for 2nd all-time in Minnesota Timberwolves history.

His seven triples represented a major improvement in his game, as Rose has never been a proficient outside shooter dating back to his high school days at Simeon.

Before this season, the highest he had shot from the 3-point line was 34 percent. In 2018-19 Rose is knocking down an absolutely elite 46 percent of his 3-point shots.

He had been getting work in whenever he could leading up to this season and it was the first offseason in quite some time where he was not worried about rehabbing from an injury.

With Minnesota sitting at 4-8 and playing maddeningly inconsistent due to the on-again, off-again nature of the Jimmy Butler situation, the Timberwolves will need more performances like this from Rose.

On top of the amazing improvement from 3-point line, Rose currently has the best offensive rating of his career (113.6 points per 100 possessions) and has already netted his career-high in points (50) this season.

The Butler drama will continue to dominate the Timberwolves headlines but Rose’s resurgence is a much-needed positive storyline in an outherwise bleak season for Minnesota. At the end of the Lakers-Timberwolves game, the last play for the potential game-winning shot was a play drew up for Rose, using Butler as a decoy. This play was as emblematic as anything in proving that Rose is truly back to being one of the premier guards in the league.
